Undersea & Subsurface: below the waterline is still your problem

The subsurface is the hardest place to see and the easiest place to hide — a diver, an uncrewed underwater vehicle, or a seabed sensor gives almost nothing away. What little it does give is acoustic, and it arrives with no clean identity attached.

Roadmap
  • NATO SAPIENT
  • ASTERIX
  • NIST RMF 800-37
  • DoDD 3000.09

DaggerOS™ treats subsurface detections as one more contributor to the operator picture, correlating them with the surface, air, and RF pictures so a below-the-waterline contact is decided in context rather than in an isolated sonar stovepipe. BlackEcho™ flags subsurface activity that lines up with something happening above.

How DaggerOS handles it

Subsurface signals are sparse and ambiguous, so their value comes from correlation with the domains around them — a subsurface contact near a pier at the same time as an RF or surface anomaly is a very different decision than either alone. DaggerOS puts them in one picture so the operator reasons across the waterline. It stays air-gapped and on-box. The Human Gate governs any effect.

  • DaggerOS — correlates subsurface detections with the surface and air picture and records them.
  • BlackEcho — surfaces subsurface activity that coincides with events above the waterline.
  • Human Gate — the single authorization point.

Standards touched

Sensor tasking and detections align to NATO SAPIENT and ASTERIX exchange; security and provenance follow NIST RMF 800-37. Human authority is held to DoDD 3000.09.

Where it fits

Undersea and subsurface awareness supports port and maritime security and the protection of coastal and offshore critical infrastructure. It is evaluated by program offices, DHS, and coalition partners. See port and maritime security and critical infrastructure protection.

Evidence

Roadmap. Subsurface fusion is a planned expansion of the taxonomy and is marked honestly as not yet demonstrated.

FAQ

Why treat subsurface as part of a wider picture?

Because a subsurface contact alone is ambiguous. Its meaning changes entirely when it coincides with a surface or RF event nearby — correlation is what makes it actionable.

Does DaggerOS build sonar hardware?

No. It is designed to consume subsurface detections and correlate them, not to replace the sensor. The value is the fused decision, not the transducer.

Is this available today?

No. It is marked Roadmap — a planned contributor to the picture, not a demonstrated capability.
